Friction

Spanish version

#indie-web-carnival#musings

There is always friction within teams (for work, sports, school, and so on), even if it is minimal.

It can sometimes be shown as something uncomfortable, leading to say “this is not good”.

And, of course, friction is beneficial in some situations. It is a warning that we need to improve something in the team. If that friction grows, it may lead to an inability to act. We need to avoid at all costs.

I’ve worked in teams that ignored the friction. Many ex-teammates worked unsatisfactorily, failed to meet their objectives, or abandoned the team.

Teams are not numbers that create outcomes; we should not focus solely on the final result of the process; there are also certain gray scales that are not quantifiable. There is friction. It creates difficulties in the team and prevents them from achieving their goals, as well as causing internal disagreements.

Someone once said that if you want to travel across the country with your car, you need do proper maintenance and review any warnings that emerge. You would not want to stop in the middle of the road.

This wonderful discussion subject was initiated by B.H. Belvadi as part of the IndieWeb Carnival for January. This text is a little contribution to this incredible initiative.
