Rituals

Spanish version

As I understand it, rituals are ceremonies dedicated to one or many entities considered divine. Additionally, I think these are actions performed before beginning something important.

If I use this definition in my environment, I live in a country full of rituals, especially of a religious nature or related to entities that transcend this world.

One of my favorite rituals is the Day of the Dead. Families gather in their homes or at graveyards at midnight and create colorful altars using pink, purple, and orange. These altars are used to remember and honor deceased relatives with great affection. Offerings that the deceased enjoyed, such as their favorite meals, snacks, or personal belongings, are placed on each step of the altar. Additionally, a photograph of the deceased is placed at the top of the altar.

Regarding rituals in my life, lately, I’ve noticed a pattern in my pre-match routine. Before each volleyball game, I like to have a light meal. On the way to the stadium, I listen to progressive rock music. I also have a habit of always wearing my left knee pad first. Before starting the sets, we gather in a circle as a team, put our hands together, and yell “1..2..3.. EDS” which is our team’s name.

Thinking it over, I realize that these actions I do repeatedly could be sports ritual.
