One month out of home

The opportunity to work remotely in another country came up not long ago, thanks to a benefit offered by the company I work with. I had been thinking about something like this for over a year. People usually picture themselves working from a pool or sitting on a beach. My situation, however, will be quite the opposite.

I’ll be visiting my family again near Chicago. Last time I arrived at their place at the end of October, when autumn was at its peak. This time I decided to experience the place in spring. I’ll see if those trees actually have that distinctive red-orange foliage. Fortunately, I’ll be taking half of this period as vacation to go out with my cousins and aunts and uncles. The other half I’ll have to work. It should be a good experience.

This decision hasn’t been easy to make. I’ll be away from home for almost a full month, far from my parents, my family, and my friends. I’ve never left home for more than 15 days before; this time it’s nearly double that, and honestly, I feel a bit uneasy about it.

On top of that, I’m leaving at the beginning of the rainy and storm season, which makes me a bit nervous. I won’t be around to check if anything happens. On the other hand, my parents will be doing me the great favor of keeping an eye on the house when they can, and that does ease some of the anxiety.

Well, I hope it’s a great adventure and that I can enjoy it.
